The race for “War of the Gods” and “Clash of the Titans,” two rival projects set up at Relativity and Warners, is quickening.
Both are close to casting their leads, with “Stardust” topliner Henry Cavill set to star in “Gods” and “Terminator Salvation” star Sam Worthington in negotiations to climb aboard “Titans,” which Thunder Road is producing and Legendary Pictures is co-producing.”
In addition, the projects have set start dates. “Gods” would seem to have the edge — it’s tentatively planned for a February shoot, while production on “Titans” is slated to begin in April.
Both are sub-$100 million projects, though the budget for “Gods,” at approximately $85 million, is believed to be higher than “Titans,” which is closer to the $70 million range.

Production will begin June 16 in Dublin, Ireland, with series star Jonathan Rhys Meyers set to return as King Henry VIII. The number of episodes has yet to be determined for Season 3, which will follow the king as he weds third queen Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) and then Anne of Cleves (still to be cast).

‘The Tudors” Emmy strategy: The episodes
UPDATED 4/22 — Showtime has made a few changes in episode selection since we received the info below. Jonathan Rhys Myers has ditched episode 203 and now plans to choose either 209 or 210, which recently finished shooting. No plot details are yet known. Whatever goes on in 210 must make it a doozy because we hear that Natalie Dormer (as Anne Boleyn) has picked that one as her Emmy entry. No doubt it’s the one where she gets a new shoulder-cut do, rather unvoluntarily and rather bloody. Henry Cavill (as Henry’s chum Charles Brandon) has declared his eppy: 205.
If Emmy contenders make the final runoff after a popular vote of 14,000 members of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, they must submit a sample episode to a judging panel that will determine the five final nominees. Final episode declarations aren’t due until the end of May, but here is what “The Tudors” plans as of now:
Best Drama Series (205 “Anne’s Family’s Power is Jeopardized” airs April 27)
Lead Actor: Jonathan Rhys Meyers (203 “Henry Marries Anne in Secret” or 210)
Supporting Actor: Henry Cavill (203 or 210)
Supporting Actor: Jeremy Northam (205 “Anne’s Family’s Power Is Jeopardized”)
Supporting Actor: Nick Dunning (208)
Supporting Actor: James Frain (TBD)
Supporting Actress: Maria Doyle Kennedy (207)
Supporting Actress: Natalie Dormer (TBD)
Guest Actor: Peter O’Toole (208)

Henry Cavill has joined the cast of Woody Allen’s untitled romantic comedy, which has started production in Queens.
Cavill, known for his role as Charles Brandon, the Duke of Suffolk, on Showtime’s “The Tudors,” plays a man who is set up with Evan Rachel Wood’s character by her mother. Larry David also stars as Wood’s love interest.
The script, penned by Allen, is being kept under wraps. Allen also is co-starring and directing the Wild Bunch-funded film. His sister, Letty Aronson, and Stephen Tenenbaum are producing.
Cavill’s film credits include “Stardust,” “Tristan & Isolde” and “The Count of Monte Cristo.”
The second season of “Tudors” begins March 30 on Showtime.
